January 31, 2015 - 6 Months 17 Days Old

This weekend, we all went down to Deshka Landing in Willow to help out with the Knik 200 Sled Dog Race.  I was hoping Kadin would have been able to be out and about more, but it was -17ºF out for most of the day and night and he and Danial were mostly stuck indoors.  We all had a good time though!

I'm the person in red at the far right of the picture, watching the team be led up to the start of the race.

Kadin enjoys his new minimalist diaper set-up, especially as it makes him look like a sumo wrestler.

January 29, 2015 - 6 Months 15 Days Old

Bath Time!  Kadin is now sitting up by himself and enjoyed splashing and playing in the water.  Super fun!

January 28, 2015 - 6 Months 14 Days Old

We tried to keep Kadin sleeping when we arrived at Twister Creek, using his hat as an eyeshade, but he insisted on waking up and got so excited to see kids at another table that they all came over to say hi.  However, within 5 minutes, the excitement was replaced by irritable sleepiness and he wasn't so keen for all the attention anymore...

January 27, 2015 - 6 Months 13 Days Old

It was finally above 0ºF today (it's been -25ºF the past few days, which although very cold, is better than +35ºF) so we went outside for some fresh air.  

Then, in the evening we went to the first meeting of Talkeetna's latest recycling effort - Talkeetna Recycle Works.  It sounds promising!! Yay!

January 24, 2015 - 6 Months 10 Days Old

We received 17 inches of snow over the past 2 days and we were completely snowed in until the plow truck plowed our road this afternoon!   So... what else to do but practice using a spoon!

January 23, 2015 - 6 Months 9 Days Old

Kadin was bored of being indoors and laying around with his bottle, so we went outside to watch the chickadees for a while.  One did briefly land on my hand, but it's awfully hard to catch just that moment with the camera.  Kadin loves watching them swoop down and fly past him with the audible "whoosh" of their wings.

January 22, 2015 - 6 Months 8 Days Old

Kadin is quickly learning how to race around in his walker.  To encourage him, I call out, "Come, Kadin!" and "Good lil' puppy" and then give him a treat or praise.  ;-)

I didn't take any decent pictures today (the ones I took weren't indecent, just poor exposure and grainy), but... I just received the family pictures we had taken back in mid-December.  They were a benefit shoot and were supposed to be with Santa, but we were a few minutes late and he had already left...

We are starting to experiment with "baby-led feeding" - in other words, if he can pick it up, he can eat it (with supervision, of course).  So it's a bit blurry, but here he is with a piece of broccoli, and he loved gumming the floret part of it!  Next, he decided to try gnawing on a piece of orange peel, and he even liked that!

Although we aren't really into plastic gifts, it's certainly cute for a fun photo shoot, with Rivet and Buck participating as well.  Then, time to pass it on for some other kid to enjoy.

January 13, 2015 - 5 Months 30 Days

Crazy busy day at work, starting with an 8am emergency and pretty much going straight through til 9pm.  Had one hour around 3pm which I spent in bed, putting Kadin to sleep.  Otherwise, he was in a client's arms, in his bassinet, or by the end of the day, attached to me as the only way to keep him content.  

Here he is, wondering what in the world I find so interesting in those little black tubes I'm looking at — his first, and definitely not last, exposure to a microscope!

And just because you can't see his face in the above picture, he's a shot of him from the 10th, with a goofy cross-eyed smile...

January 12, 2015 - 5 Months 29 Days

Busy vet day and took a quick photo of Kadin before my 5pm appointment showed up.  Poor guy was  put in his bassinet, tossed a toy, and ignored.  He is amazingly patient (most of the time).

Spent an awesome afternoon at the cabin (aka The Nubbin'), enjoying beautiful blue sky, fun clouds, and the spectacularly lit-up Denali range.

In the beginning of the flight, Kadin is Mr. Co-Pilot, scanning the horizon and conferring with Momma D...

... but by the end of the flight, he is snuggled up to his other Momma, and doesn't even wake up for the landing.

Whee!  A little morning walk around the house before spending another day with Mamma D while I catch up on work and house chores.

Kadin got to visit with Mia today — the woman who first connected us to him with that fateful text on July 1st, 2014, "Call me ASAP, I have a baby for you."  Thanks Mia!!!!!!  Even Kadin looks like he is thanking her!

Kadin spent the day at Talkeetna Air Taxi with Danial, getting passed around to all the staff and having a very social day.

Beautiful New Year's Day and we went on a backcountry trip into town.  The weather was mild enough that Kadin didn't need the Chariot's cover and he enjoyed the view (at least, the first 1/2 hour, before he fell asleep) .

December 31, 2014 - 5 Months 17 Days

I know the day isn't over yet, and we'll hopefully get a good photo from our New Year's Celebration, but this is just too cute so I couldn't wait.  Learning to eat is FUN!

We didn't quite make it til midnight, but Kadin got to see his first fireworks.  Even with the ear protection, he still wasn't too psyched about the sound of them, but liked watching the pretty colors light up the sky.

A boring day of errands and chores during which I forgot to take a cuter photo of Kadin.   On a more fun note, in the evening, he was in his walker again and can now scoot across the room to reach a toy or dog that he wants!  I hope to get a video soon.

It takes us so long to get packed up and dressed and ready to play that Kadin often passes out just from the effort.

But finally, here we are, enjoying awesome ski conditions and heading to town to meet up with Danial for dinner.  The ski back in the dark was extra fun, with the doggies running up ahead, flashing their blinky collars.
